There are several significant benefits of hiding spots in animal shelters:
- Feral (outdoor) and shy cats have much reduced stress when there is an available hiding spot in their kennels. They help tremendously with a sense of security that is often so missed in the shelter environment.
- Disease control is supported by hidey boxes when used in our isolation spaces. Cats can curl up in the boxes while we clean so that we don't accidentally transmit germs from one cat to the next.
- We're able to use the vertical space much more effectively in our kenneling systems that have hidey boxes, really enriching and expanding the space and activity available to our cats.
- Kennels with multiple cats are often cramped. Friends who come in together like to be housed together, and having this added kennel feature is really helpful to keep tensions low.
