Special Second Chances Graduate Needs Expensive Surgery to Keep Eyesight
Howie, a young husky mix, graduated on January 9, 2010 from DCHS and Thompson Correction Center’s ‘Second Chances’ program.* The happiness of the day was overshadowed by the very recent news that Howie has juvenile onset cataracts. This condition is not uncommon in the husky breed and is characterized by a sudden onset and typically complete blindness within 2 – 3 months.
The success rate of surgeries to remove cataracts is very high and gives Howie the greatest chance at regaining and keeping his vision.
The surgery costs $3,000. DCHS is asking the community to please give their support to this wonderful dog so that he can have the surgery and go on to find his new forever home.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO HELP GIVE HOWIE THE GIFT OF SIGHT!
