Safety Net Pledge for Life

 Safety Net Pledge for Life

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~Mohandas Gandhi

What can you do? The answers are simple, yet profound. Although the plight of the homeless animal population in Dane County – and across the U.S. – is heartbreaking, there is hope. This problem can be solved, and we can all play a part. Finding the solution offers us the chance to become better people and to express the very best of our humanity. We believe solving this issue can be a stepping stone toward an expanding circle of compassion, and a call to action to create a society that is just and caring to all living beings – beginning with the precious ones “right in our own backyards.”

YES!

I want to support Dane County Humane Society and help spread the safety net for homeless animals in Dane County! I pledge to work toward an “adoption guarantee” community and understand that my actions have a direct effect in creating a more humane world.

I Pledge...

  • to understand the commitment of living with a companion animal
  • to love and care for my animals for their lifetime and to include them in my own life changes
  • to fight pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering all of my companion animals.
  • to educate myself before I bring an animal home to make sure it is the right fit for my lifestyle.
  • to save a life by adopting a homeless animal from DCHS or another animal shelter or rescue group when adding a pet to my family.
  • to protect my companions from becoming lost by keeping them safely confined.to identify my animals using a microchop and/or having them wear a collar with current identification at all times.
  • to support the safety net through financial or volunteer contributions as every dollar and every hour count.
  • to share the safety net pledge with family and friends and always demonstrate respectful, loving, and responsible animal care so that others may learn from my example and want to do the same.

I make this pledge to the animals that I know and to the ones I may never see. I make this pledge to honor their love, companionship, and intrinsic value. I understand that the solutions are in my hands.

I make this pledge with love and hope.
