A Note from Pam Tauscher, DCHS Development Director
It's a little like coming home. I decided to answer a calling to rejoin Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) as Development Director, a role I took on in early November 2007. After a long career in broadcasting it had become apparent that both my family and I had outgrown that career path. We tried all shapes and sizes, but nothing seemed to fit.
But what would I enjoy doing that would allow me time to raise my sons in the hands-on way I so desired, yet would also allow me to have a hand in a professional career that might offer some different challenges and rewards? I have been involved with DCHS since I worked a brief stint in a similar position almost three years ago. Not to mention we adopted our first dog, Bob, from DCHS back in 1993 and currently have two other DCHS alums.
I also served as a DCHS board member for two years, which allowed me to gain a much deeper understanding of the huge financial, political, and social challenges the shelter faces. I appreciate and have gained immense respect for the efforts that have gone into guiding this shelter into a financially stable organization focused on our mission of helping people help animals. I have been impressed with the rational, ground approach our board has taken to make this non-profit organization healthy for both the animals we so love and the people who want to make a difference.
Now, I have a real chance to jump in with both feet and try to make a difference for an organization I love and respect.
I'm in the process of finding my new sea legs in a world that is much different that the media world I left. The similar nature of the two is that I can tell the story of our wonderful shelter and enjoy the company of a furry pal at the same time! I plan to meet with and get to know as many of our generous supporters as I can. I hope that if I don't call you, you'll call me and let me know what inspires you to help animals. I'm looking forward to spreading the word of the many ways you can help those still looking for their forever homes.
My focus as Development Director is to find new ways to help donors be connected to our cause, re-kindle old friendships and make new friends, engage our supports in helping us build for the future through gifts in their estates, visit and speak to as many community groups as I can, and celebrate the thousands of lives touched every year by the immeasurable gift of having an animal in your life.
If you want to join me in my efforts to make a difference, I'd love to hear from you. Email me at ptauscher@giveshelter.org. Or call me at (608) 838-0413 ext. 117. And remember, you don't have to take an animal home to help. Just surf our website to find out how you can make a difference!
