Help Us Build a New Treatment FacilityHelp Dane County Humane Society Build New Ringworm Treatment Facility Maddie’s Fund will match the community amount raised, dollar for dollar - possible $200,000 opportunity!
Attention All Pet Lovers! Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) is challenging pet lovers to open their hearts and pocketbooks to help support the building of a new facility for treating cats with ringworm. For every dollar DCHS raises for this project, Maddie’s Fund will match, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000. That’s a $200,000 opportunity that will go a long way towards providing the care that these cats desperately need. DCHS has been nationally recognized for its approach to ringworm as a treatable and manageable condition in a shelter environment. The treatment protocols developed in cooperation with the UW Madison Veterinary School and UC Davis mean that shelter cats with ringworm aren’t euthanized to prevent the spread of this disease, but instead are guaranteed a second chance for life. Since implementing these protocols in 2003, DCHS has saved over 700 felines (mostly kittens) and has lead the way to changing how infections and outbreaks are treated in shelters. The new Maddie’s® FIT (Felines In Treatment) Center will replace the 1960s era single-wide house trailer currently being used (*photos attached of current trailer and design for new facility). The Alexander Company has donated the design of the building which will be located next to the main shelter building on Voges Road. The total cost of the building project is estimated at $400,000. The ground breaking is scheduled for spring 2010. Funds for this project are still desperately needed.
