Helping Lydia Together

Three Local Animal Rescue Organizations Working Together to Help an Inspiring Cat

Even without the use of her back legs, Lydia is loving life and looking for her forever home!

Lydia is a special cat with an inspiring story.  She was originally found stray and taken to Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) in 2008.  DCHS immediately realized that Lydia, an otherwise beautiful, healthy and loving cat, didn’t have use of her two back hind legs.  Because of her condition, DCHS felt she would be most comfortable in a home environment while she waited to find her forever home.  Lydia was transferred into the care of a local rescue organization, Shelter from the Storm, that could better accommodate her needs.  Lydia’s positive personality and demeanor is truly touching.  She enjoys life and doesn’t let anything get in her way or stop her from having a normal life.  It’s inspirational to watch Lydia walk or scoot around, climb cat trees and jump back down - AND yes, even use the litter box like any other cat.

In 2008, DCHS also partnered with Shelter From The Storm and Dane County Friends of Ferals in a collaborative partnership dedicated to making Dane County an Adoption Guarantee Community.  The grant funding for this partnership is provided by the Maddies Fund.

There are satellite adoption centers at each of the four Mounds Pet Food Warehouse locations, and now, thru the partnership, all three organizations have available animals at the different locations.  The three organizations are working together to get as many homeless animals homes as possible.

Lydia is a perfect example of the partnership in action.  She is not only a representative of how the Maddies partners are working together at Mounds, but she’s also an example of how DCHS, Shelter from the Storm and Dane County Friends of Ferals are working together by sending special needs cats to rescue.
