Taki & Leelee

taki_and_leeleeI adopted Taki and Leelee on this past Thursday and I wanted to drop you a note to let you know how they're settling in. The first night they found a couple hidey-holes in my bedroom and stayed mostly out of the way. Occasionally, they would come out to be petted, but they'd scatter if I got up and started moving around. By Friday they were following me from room to room and wouldn't want to be left alone.

Starting yesterday, they pretty well had the apartment mapped out and had picked their favorite spots and were comfortable being in a different room than me. Leelee likes to get away and snooze at the end of the top bunk in my kids' room, while Taki sleeps on a folded blanket on the sofa.

For sisters from the same litter, they have completely different personalities. Leelee is a lap-hog, often making a bridge between two people sitting on the sofa, so as to maximize lap-usage per square cat-inch, while Taki prefers to sit on the sofa next to the person and extend one paw onto the person's leg. Leelee likes to tear around the apartment, running up and down the stairs to the loft, while Taki likes to relax on the floor, sofa, or one of the chairs in the dining room. I'm starting to understand why Taki weighs almost twice what Leelee does! At night, Taki sleeps in a cat bed on a chair in my bedroom and Leelee sleeps on the floor or at the end of my bed. She wakes me up at about 5:30 by butting her head against my nose and meowing until I get up and pet her.

Both cats have been using the up- and downstairs litter boxes with no accidents and have had good appetites. I have them on a Natural Balance limited ingredient diet to see if that helps Leelee's alopecia and they seem to enjoy it. They drink from their fountain easily, but they also jump into the bathtub whenever they can to drink from the faucet. They both like the fishing-rod toy and playing with catnip-stuffed mice. The picture I've attached shows them (Taki left, Leelee right) sitting on their scratching post perches getting ready for a nap.

I'd like to thank everyone there for keeping Taki and Leelee safe and healthy between homes! I'm grateful that my kids and I were able to adopt them and make them members of our household.

Cheers,

Alex
