DCHS Essential Community Resource During COVID-19 Pandemic

Guidelines for potential visitors and customers to DCHS

Through these uncertain times, DCHS continues to be here to help our community's people and animals.

As always, DCHS continues to be an adoption guarantee shelter. All healthy or treatable animals, even now, can stay with us as long as they need to find a home. Thank you to our foster networks and our community for their steadfast support!

Our greatest need is for monetary donations to continue providing critical care for our community’s animals. Please donate online or mail your check to DCHS, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718.

DCHS OPEN HOURS

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

If you have a scheduled appointment at the shelter, we ask all visitors use hand sanitizer and wash their hands frequently. Please bring and wear a facemask in our facility. In addition, we ask you not visit the facility if you:

  • Had direct contact with anyone who has been confirmed to have COVID-19 or visited a high risk area within the past 14 days.
  • Have a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, including older people and people of all ages with severe underlying health conditions.
  • Feel sick, especially if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing or any flu-like symptoms within the past 14 days.

ADOPTED PET MEDICAL VOUCHERS

DCHS has started reaching out to schedule appointments for medical vouchers in priority order.

Adoption fees for dogs and cats include spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, heartworm testing for dogs and other vaccines and veterinary care as needed. Due to Covid-19-related restrictions, DCHS was operating under different veterinary protocols for a period of time and some adoptable animals were sent home prior to completion of services such as spay/neuter, heartworm testing or microchipping. Adopters were given a voucher for services that we were unable to offer prior to adoption. There are a limited number of slots available each week and DCHS staff is now reaching out to adopters to schedule appointments. Adopters are also welcome to seek these services from their own veterinarian at their own expense if preferred.

Thank you for your continued support!
