Thank You for Helping Noelle Heal!
We have some wonderful news to share!
Thanks to your generous donation to Noelle’s Help Me Heal appeal we raised more than the $1,575 needed to help this sweet Pomeranian puppy. Thank you!
Noelle’s surgery to repair her fractured front left leg has been scheduled for tomorrow, December 29, with Dr. John Silbernagel of Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS). We are incredibly grateful for the support of Dr. Silbernagel and all the MVS staff in helping us bring much needed comfort and relief to such a loving puppy.
After Noelle’s surgery, she will return to her foster home to rest and heal. Our Animal Medical Services staff will monitor her recovery until she is ready to return to the humane society and find her forever home.
Thank YOU for helping this sweet girl get the surgery and the follow up care she needs. Without your generous support, none of the work we do to help animals like Noelle would be possible.
Any remaining funds raised above thoseneeded for Noelle’s surgery and follow-up care will be used to continue the work DCHS’s Animal Medical Services does every day.
Holiday Healing for Noelle
$1,575 surgery needed for Pomeranian puppy
This past Monday, December 21, a tiny, female Pomeranian puppy was brought in as an injured stray to Dane County Humane Society. In the spirit of the holidays and the puppy's merry disposition, we named her Noelle. During her initial examination, staff estimated her age at around 8 weeks old.
Our Animal Medical Services staff was able to take radiographs and gently put a temporary splint on Noelle's fractured front left leg. The x-rays show Noelle has completely fractured her radius and ulna (the two bones between her wrist and elbow, as seen in the x-ray below). This is a painful break that can be best fixed with surgery to place a device called an external skeletal fixator. This surgery will give Noelle's leg the best chance of returning to normal function.
Dr. John Silbernagel, of Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS), has offered to help us with this specialized surgery at a reduced rate. We are very appreciative of his support and expertise and also that of his MVS staff. Our hope is to schedule the surgery to happen first thing next week, but help is needed now to raise the necessary funds.
"Surgical repair of Noelle's limb is the best option to provide long-term comfort and mobility," says Dr. Erica Schumacher, DVM, DCHS Chief Shelter Veterinarian. "Through surgery and proper physical therapy, Noelle will be able to run around, play and have a normal life."
"Throughout this traumatic experience, Noelle has remained so sweet, gentle and loving," says Marissa DeGroot, DCHS Public Relations Coordinator. "With the support of our compassionate and caring community, Noelle will get the opportunity to make a full recovery and find a forever home in the New Year."
Please help us raise $1,575 by Monday for this sweet puppy to receive the medical care she needs!
With your support, Noelle will be starting 2016 with a healthier, more hopeful future.
