***** Pitch has some special needs and will need a special home so he is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club and his adoption fee has been reduced to $300. *****
Age: 8 months
Weight: ~35 lbs
Personality: Hi there! My name is Pitch and I arrived here from Mississippi in August. I wasn't feeling very good when I got here so was in foster for a time. While there and recuperating I also worked on my house training, figured out my crate skills, and tried really hard to play nice with her cats! I'm a little shy in new places and when I meet new people so it would be great if you could be patient with me while I work up the nerve to be brave! Also - I really like to play fetch with tennis balls and chew on sticks so if you have some of those, that would be great!
Medical History & Housing Preferences: The vets here ran some tests on me and discovered I was infected by a tick and have something called hepatozoonosis. Wow! What a big word! Unfortunately, this is a disease that can't be cured but it can be put in remission. Since I have been in foster, I have been eating my meds in canned food like a good boy and I am feeling so much better! I will have to get these meds twice a day for two years and then my new family will be able to see if I am in remission. The shelter has purchased a whole year's supply of my medicine and will be sending it home with whoever adopts me. The nice staff here will be happy to answer all your questions and give you all the details about this. In addition, I am from the south where heartworms and other parasites are more common, so it is a good idea to keep me on preventatives and get me retested for heartworm in 6 months. It will be especially important to make an appointment with your vet soon after adoption so I can meet my new doctor and you can share my medical records with them!
