The Main Shelter and Thrift Store are closing at 4:00 pm Friday, March 24, for a special event. Adoption visits are first-come, first-served. We recommend checking our current waitlist prior to your visit. Most other services are by appointment only, including reuniting lost animals, surrendering a pet, wildlife rehabilitation, and more.

Become a Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern

Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center offers unpaid internships for college students and recent graduates. The Wildlife Center admits over 4,000 animals annually, representing more than 150 different species. Interns are able to get a lot of hands-on experience working with a wide variety of native Wisconsin wild species.

Application deadlines:

  • February 15 for summer season
  • July 1 for fall season
  • November 15 for spring season
