Tours of the DCHS Main Shelter

A behind-the-scenes tour is available for groups of all ages, from preschoolers to senior citizens! During this one-hour tour, visitors will learn about DCHS, witness staff and volunteers in action and view our available animals looking for homes. Tour guests will also get to meet our education animals. We are able to accommodate groups with up to 45 participants (includes children and adults) at a time.

Tour fees:

  • 1-15 Participants: $35
  • 16-30 Participants: $60
  • 31-45 Participants: $85

Let DCHS come to you! DCHS can visit your school, business or organization to teach participants about different animal related topics. We offer several different presentation lengths, and we are able to accommodate groups of all sizes.

Presentation Fees:

  • 30 minutes - $50
  • 45 minutes - $60
  • 1 hour - $70

If you are interested in booking multiple presentations on the same day, please contact the Humane Educator for those fees. We can offer you a discount!

We currently have a limited number of funding opportunities to cover the fees for presentations to public schools. If you are associated with a public school in the Dane County area and unable to afford the presentation fee, please contact the Humane Educator with your interest in funding opportunities. Please include the age and number of students, your presentation topic and length of choice and why you are pursuing assistance with funding to be considered.

Field Trips

Love the idea of a tour and a presentation? Consider a field trip to the DCHS Main Shelter! Field trips to DCHS are a 2.5 hour adventure, including a behind-the-scenes tour, time with our education animals, a craft or service project, a presentation and space to eat your lunch here at DCHS!

We require a minimum of 15 students to schedule a field trip and have a maximum number of 40.

Field Trip Fees:

  • $8/participant
  • No charge for teachers

Cancellation Policy

For cancellations made more than 2 weeks prior to the event, you may reschedule, elect to have your money refunded, or change the fee to a donation to DCHS. For cancellations made from 1 to 2 weeks before your event, you may reschedule, change the fee to a donation to DCHS or receive a voucher good for the amount paid. The voucher can be applied to event fees through the end of the following calendar year. Cancellations made 1 week or less prior to your event, or if no one shows up for the event, are non-refundable.

Allergy Information

DCHS utilizes peanut butter for animal enrichment throughout the shelter, and is unable to provide a peanut free facility. We are unable to make accommodations for children with severe peanut allergies.
