Most DCHS and Wildlife Center services are by appointment only, including reuniting lost animals, surrendering a pet, wildlife rehabilitation, and more. Adoption visits are first-come, first-served. We recommend checking our current waitlist prior to your visit.

Clear The Shelters Adoption Event

Main Shelter - 5132 Voges Rd

Sat. Aug 13th, 2022 to Sun. Aug 14th, 2022

Join Dane County Humane Society to Clear The Shelters and find loving homes for animals in our community! On August 13th and 14th, from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, we're teaming up with NBC15 to host the sixth annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption event. All dog, cat, and critter adoption fees will be reduced during this event.

We recommend that potential adopters check out the animals available for adoption on our website prior to arriving at the shelter, and adopters should be prepared to take the animal home that day. Please remember to bring any leashes, collars, or carriers that you plan on using. DCHS will have some available for purchase if needed.

Upon arrival potential adopters will be added to a wait list, and adoptions will take place in a first-come, first-served basis. We anticipate a big turnout and long wait times, and adopters should expect to wait from 1 to 3 hours or more to meet with a pet, but DCHS will text you as your appointment nears. Adopters should have a couple animals in mind to meet with in case the pet they were interested in is adopted before it’s their turn.

DCHS will control how many people can visit the kennels at any given time so as to not overwhelm the animals.

Please note, if there is a pet you see on our website and feel strongly about meeting, do NOT wait for the event because you might miss out on that animal.

The Adoption Center will be closed Monday, August 15th, following the two-day adoption event.
